After an early try for Harpenden, our lads got themselves back in the game and fought hard for fifteen minutes defending their twenty-two doggedly against a team that were quicker to every breakdown, before our backs were able to put together some quick passes and find Jacob in space to work his way over the line and bring the scores level. Unfortunately, in the defence of our try line, Ben was injured and received treatment before being taken off of the pitch and ultimately to A&E with what has now been diagnosed as a broken tibia, everyone at the club sends there best wishes to him for a swift recovery. Some switching of positions and a replacement later, Harpenden were able to stretch into a 5-17 lead at half time.
The second half followed a similar pattern, our boys unable to match the oppositions drive and desire to be first to every ball and every breakdown and despite trying a having a number of good opportunities we were unable to get over the score line and add to our tally. However, Harpenden picked up three tries from well timed interceptions and finished strongly ending the game as deserved 5-46 winners.
The post match social had an eerie atmosphere as most of the opposition had eaten and made a swift exit before we made it into the marquee and our lads were definitely not in the mood to chat. It did make selecting the opposition player of the match easier though as there was only three to choose from and they reciprocated by nominating George Scott our star player.
We put this result behind us and turn our thoughts to our next fixture but mostly to Ben and wishing him all the best in his recovery, I don't doubt he will be in regular attendance at training and fixtures to support his team mates.
