The U16A team returned to action after over a month without a full fixture. While our visitors were depleted by a clash with a school's 7s tournament taking away several of their key players, this still proved to be a useful run out for the boys. We opened the scoring after just 3 minutes with a beautiful move involving all of our backs. Strong running, with well timed offloads seamlessly moved the ball from scrum-half to wing with speed and returning Ali M was able to slide through and sprint round behind the posts. Three further tries from Carter, Calan and Cameron saw us take a healthy 27-0 lead into the break, and the second half started in the same vain with Jacob and Cameron adding further scores to extend the lead to 41 points.
Finchley's heads did not drop and they continued to press for a score and were rewarded on 46 minutes when they opened their account. As the game slowed and began to peter out, both sides traded tries with Carter adding a second and skipper Andrei deservedly grabbing our final try to close the game with a convincing 52-14 scoreline.
Man of the match was awarded to Cameron for his two tries and strong performance up front. Finchley return for the second leg of this double header next weekend, and we can expect a stronger side and a team set for revenge.
