The under 16A's delivered a solid performance in what can only be described as horrendous conditions. With storm Ashley passing through, the wind and heavy rain meant this was never going to be a classic, but the boys worked incredibly hard and battled through to win. Stortford looked to have opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Billy drove through the Chiswick defence and crossed the try line, however our lock was adjudged to have dropped the ball prior to grounding and the try was ruled out. We continued to press, and a fantastic charge down over the try line from Freddie allowed Billy to touch down for a second time, and this time the try was awarded.
Chiswick hit back in the 21st minute and their successful conversion briefly took the lead until a superb individual try from fly half Carter, convert by Fabian give the home side a 12-7 halftime lead.
The Chiswick coaches delivered a long half time speech that clearly inspired their boys who came out fighting in the second half. The Blues endured 15 minutes of strong and aggressive pressure before we regained possession and built momentum. After multiple phases of play, Jules picked the ball from a try line ruck and dived over to extend our lead. Ten minutes later Luca picked from another ruck and scored to secure the win.
A late consolation try from Chiswick concluded the scoring, and both sides headed for the bar drenched but delighted to have finished the game. Zico collected the player of the match award for his impactful second half running, and credit must go to Andrei for his strong leadership and disciplined captaincy.
