The Under 6s welcomes all children in school Year 1 to the club and aims to teach them the basic techniques and skills of Tag rugby in a fun and inclusive environment.

At this early age the focus is on handling and running with the ball and our games and skills sessions are all designed to target and develop these areas making it fun for all children with varying abilities.

We play “tag” rugby where there is no contact but acts as a pre-cursor to learning to tackle when they reach the Under 9s. Next season when we all move up to the Under 7s, we will start to play matches against other clubs and to get us prepared we will be looking to play some practice matches against some of the current Under 7s later this season.

Bishop’s Stortford RFC is a family club and the social element is high on the agenda. We have lots of social events and this is always a great chance for both coaches and parents to get to know each other.

NEW INFORMATION FOR THIS SEASON'S NEW STARTERS

No specialist kit is needed at this stage although as winter approaches a pair of rugby boots are essential. As it gets colder please ensure you and your child has plenty of layers and for the children we would recommend tight thermal tops and leggings for especially cold days. You can also buy a club shirt in the shop which should last 2-3 seasons (depending on growth rates!).

Parents must remain with the children to watch on the sidelines so do please bring some drinks and snacks for the kids during breaks and parents should dig out some warm clothes and sturdy boots for when the weather turns. You can buy coffee/tea and stronger beverages in the club house and the kids normally enjoy a hotdog or similar after the training session.
