Stortford started slowly, failing completely to deal with a high, hanging opening dropout by Moseley's Tommy Taylor, coming straight out of the sun and were immediately defending their 22. This they did manfully for some 4 minutes, but the visitors retained possession through many phases and eventually made room for Taylor to go over for a try, which he could not convert. Stortford surged straight back onto the attack and Declan Murphy used his pace to stretch the inside defence, before grubber-kicking ahead to set up Chris Smith for an equalising try, well converted by Chris Bolton off an upright. Moseley were back in the lead, though after 19 minutes, when Taylor (again!) kicked a penalty goal for a breakdown offence. Within 2 minute, the home side had their noses in front again, when Alex Gilham rounded off some neat back play, initiated by a David Hayes half break. Moseley, however, struck back almost immediately with a converted try by Tom Miles, exploiting some uncharacteristically loose Stortford defence with decisive offloading rugby and Taylor again converting. It was a full 16 minutes before the next score, with chances going begging for both sides, but the breakthrough came for the home side on the brink of halftime, when Austin Pope took a quick penalty well inside the Moseley 22 after a period of strong Stortford pressure and quick hands saw Gilham draw the last defender to put Murphy in for a try out wide. The conversion attempt went narrowly wide to send Stortford into the changing room with a narrow 2 points lead.
Stortford were again slow out of the blocks after the break and had to resist a prolonged early onslaught on their line, eventually relieved by an excellent jackal turnover close to the try line by Alex Rayment. Moving upfield, the home side put together their best move of the match, rounding off some slick handling with Pope cutting a line from the left, as the ball moved to the left to crash over for a tremendous try, converted by Mike Cooke, on for the unlucky Josh Stannard, injured once again. These seven points, though, were cancelled out only 3 minutes later, when Ollie Allsopp, Moseley's lively inside centre chipped into acres of space behind Stortford's defensive line around halfway and had the speed to regather the ball after one bounce and scoot over under the posts without a hand being laid on him. A yellow card after 59 minutes to a Moseley forward for a high tackle was soon more than balanced out, when Gilham saw red for what was deemed a more reckless high challenge. This resulted in a clash of heads, from which the Stortford player, unfortunately came off much the worse. It was his side, nevertheless, that scored next, after Bolton had fielded a testing high kick at the second attempt and put in a fantastic 50-22 kick off the outside of his boot. Two 5m lineouts quickly followed, as siege was laid to the Moseley line and Will Rogers was driven over for a try from the second, with Cooke again coolly adding the extras from out wide with 8 minutes left to go. Stortford managed to hold out a resurgent Moseley for 6 minutes, but eventually could not resist a driving maul from a 5m lineout, with Ben Pogson touching down and Taylor converting. Stortford showed great discipline to defuse what could have been a very tense final couple of minutes, going through the phases well inside the opposition half.
