It was fantastic to see so many volunteers at our thank you event this year. As Chair it is my favourite night of the season. I get to say thank you to so many people who give up their time to ensure lots of safe and enjoyable rugby for all.
Curry and drinks were enjoyed by the assembled masses plus we were able to present some awards and give special thanks.
I singled out our First Aid team for their great work this year, not only ensuring safe rugby but also bringing in Return2Play which is our latest initiative to ensure injured players are given expert advice quickly. Well done especially to Mehmet, Catherine and Lisa who are our First Aid leads.
The John Follows trophy was awarded by our Referee group to Keith Edgeworth, who despite being injured has led the team through this season. We also presented our Referees who were present with specially commissioned whistles organised in John Follows memory by his family. No match is played without the Ref.
Our Volunteer of the year award was presented by last year's winner Richard Evans to Mark Caulfield. Mark is an extraordinary volunteer, always at the club making sure we are rugby and customer ready.
Well done Mark and Keith and all who volunteer for the club.
Very important news on the night was that through fund-raising this season, by Declan Caulfield running the London Marathon, and Port sales at Christmas we have raised over £55k for Al Jones' Presidents Charity CRY in Max Oliver's memory. I am sure we can keep going and raise lots more for this fantastic and very personal to BSRFC cause.
